In Loving Memory of a Quintessential Leader: A Tribute to Professor Michael Okoeguale Ibadin

It is with heavy hearts that the Paediatric Association of Nigeria mourns the passing of Professor Michael Okoeguale Ibadin, a renowned paediatrician, consultant paediatric nephrologist, and an astute health administrator, who served as the Chief Medical Director of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) from 2009 to 2017.
Professor Ibadin was a quintessential leader who left an indelible mark in the healthcare industry in Nigeria. He was a mentor to many and introduced several persons to the field of hospital administration and management.
As a professor of paediatrics and a consultant pediatric nephrologist, Professor Ibadin’s contributions to child healthcare remain unparalleled in the annals of the
department of child health, UBTH.
During his tenure as Chief Medical Director of UBTH, Professor Ibadin made significant strides not only in infrastructure but also in the way the hospital was run. He was guided by the principle of fairness, justice, and equity, and this reflected in his leadership style.
The passing of Professor Michael Okoeguale Ibadin is a significant loss to the healthcare industry in Nigeria. The Paediatric Association of Nigeria mourns the loss of our esteemed colleague and member. We acknowledge and honor his life, his achievements, and the positive impact he had on the healthcare system in Nigeria. We send our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time and pray that God gives them the strength to cope with this great loss. Although Professor Ibadin is no longer with us, his legacy will continue to inspire and guide us.
