Paediatric Association of Nigeria Pays Condolence Visit to the Family of Late Dr. Angela Anene Okolo
The President of the Paediatric Association of Nigeria (PAN), Dr. Petronila Tabansi, ably represented by Dr. Leo O. Erhunmwunsee, led a delegation of paediatricians to the residence of the late Dr. Angela Anene Okolo in Asaba, Delta State, to commiserate with her children, Dr. Innocent Okolo and Uche Okolo, and the entire Monu and Okolo families.
The visit brought together paediatricians from the three senatorial districts of Delta State. The delegation was received by the Head of the Department of Paediatrics, Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Asaba, Dr. Efe Omoyibo, and members were formally introduced to the family by Dr. Idaboh Oghenetega.
Delivering the President’s message, Dr. Leo O. Erhunmwunsee, Past Medical Director of FMC Asaba, described the late Dr. Okolo as a distinguished and highly revered paediatrician, renowned for her excellence in neonatology. He recalled working closely with her at FMC Asaba and highlighted her immense contributions to child health, medical education, and the development of hospitals and tertiary institutions in Delta State.
He further described her as a respected elder stateswoman whose leadership and service significantly advanced the growth and forward trajectory of PAN, noting that her legacy continues to inspire paediatric practice within and beyond Nigeria. A condolence letter on behalf of the International Pediatric Association (IPA) @ipaworld_org was also presented to the family.
Members of the delegation included Dr. Kayode Adeniran, Dr. Uche Osaretin Chukwuma, Dr. Hyginus Opara, and Dr. Emeka Abonyi (past Heads of Paediatrics, FMC Asaba); Dr. Gloria Nwajei, Immediate Past Medical Director, Central Hospital Sapele; Dr. Olive Ogelle, Medical Director, Central Hospital Warri; Dr. Ighosevwe Peace, Medical Director, Asaba Specialist Hospital; Dr. Grace Eseka, Medical Director, Central Hospital Agbor; and Dr. Omovigho Agbele, Special Assistant to the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Delta State.
In total, 28 PAN members, comprising senior members and trainee paediatricians, were in attendance.
