All accepted abstracts will be published in the conference book of abstracts.

GUIDELINES FOR ABSTRACT SUBMISSION

The Scientific Committee invites authors to submit their original unpublished abstracts for presentation during the conference. All accepted abstracts will be displayed as oral or poster presentations (acceptance is subject to scientific committee review).

General Requirements

  • Abstract should be less than 250 words (excluding authors' names and affiliations).
  • The abstract should be structured with: Title; Authors (Surname and initials — presenting author's name bold and underlined); Authors' institutional Affiliations (numbered with superscripts); Corresponding author's name, email and phone number.
  • Abstracts should be written in English.
  • Abstracts should be in Times New Roman, font size 12, double spacing.
  • Indicate the sub-specialty of the abstract.
  • Indicate preferred presentation options: Oral or Poster.

Research Abstract Structure

  • Methods.
  • Results.
  • Conclusions.
  • Keywords (3).

Case Presentation Structure

  • Background.
  • Case Presentation.
  • Discussion.
  • Conclusion.

Additional Information

  • Authors interested in publishing their abstracts as conference proceedings in Nigerian Journal of Paediatrics will send expanded abstracts of not more than 600 words.
  • Authors interested in Kunle Ijaiya award and Theodore Okeahialam award should indicate under the award section.
  • Only abstracts for which the presenting author has registered for the conference will be granted presentation time and published in the conference book of abstracts.
  • There will be an award for the best abstract presentation.
  • All abstracts must be submitted through the PANConf Abia 2027 website.

Guidelines for Writing Expanded Abstracts for NJP — PANConf 2027

Authors publishing in the Nigerian Journal of Paediatrics (NJP) should observe the following:

Author Information Requirements:

  • A. Names should appear as Surname followed by First name and other Initials. (Indicate corresponding author NOT presenter, with a bold asterisk *)
  • B. Affiliation of each author separately indicated with numbers.
  • C. E-mail address of the corresponding author only.
  1. Title: Not more than 22 words.
  2. Introduction: Concise information about what is already known, and what gap the research is trying to address. To include a single statement on the objective of the study. Not more than 250 words.
  3. Methods: Not more than 250 words.
  4. Results: Essential findings of importance. Not more than 300 words.
  5. Discussion and Conclusion: To be specific about what the study adds to knowledge. Highlights of relevant findings and their imports for practice and research. Not more than 500 words.
  6. References: These should be listed according to the sequence of citing within the text in the Vancouver style. Not more than ten in number. Fifty per cent of the listed citations should be as recent as five years. Each citation should include the DOI.
  7. Tables and Figures: Not more than two tables (drawn on Microsoft Excel spreadsheet) and not more than two figures or images.

APPLICATION FOR 2027 PAN AWARDS

The Kunle Ijaiya Prize was instituted in memory of Dr. Kunle Ijaiya. The prize is awarded to the best oral scientific presentation made by a Paediatric Resident during the annual meeting of the Paediatric Association of Nigeria (PANConf). The award comprises a cash prize and a plaque.

Criteria for Selection
  • The recipient of the Kunle Ijaiya Prize must be a resident at the time of presentation
  • Must have been inducted as a trainee member of PAN and be financially up-to-date
Regulations for Selection
  • Abstracts should be submitted before the closing date given for abstract submission.
  • Abstracts for the award category will be sent to the PAN Awards and Prize Committee for screening.
  • The best 10 abstracts will be the focus of judging during their oral presentation at the PANConf for the selection of the winner.
  • All persons who submit abstracts for the award must have paid the registration fee before the beginning of the conference.

All residents wishing to contest for the prize should, at the point of abstract submission, indicate their interest in being screened for the award.

The Theodore Okeahialam Prize, instituted in honour of Prof. Theodore Okeahialam, is awarded to an outstanding research paper presented by a young Paediatric Fellow in the field of Child Nutrition or Social Paediatrics. It carries a cash prize and a plaque. This award is open to young Paediatric Consultants.

Criteria for Selection
  • Must be an Ordinary member of the Paediatric Association of Nigeria, in good financial standing at the time of nomination
  • Abstracts should be submitted to PAN and forwarded to the Awards Committee well ahead of the PANConf of the award year.
  • Must be a Fellow of LESS THAN 5 YEARS of the Faculty of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria or a Fellow of the Paediatric Association of Nigeria
  • Must submit a research abstract detailing a substantive work in either Child Nutrition or Social Paediatrics or both.
  • Must be the first/lead author of the research work that forms the basis for the award
  • The work should be original research focused on Nigerian children in the area of child nutrition or social paediatrics
  • Publication of the research work within the last 12 months in a high-impact academic journal will constitute an advantage. An indication of acceptance by the journal editor will be acceptable evidence
Call for Submission
  • Submissions will be accepted from Nigerian paediatricians working in Nigeria.
  • The call will appear on the PAN website and on all PAN electronic platforms.

Research Abstract

The AdeGrange Award for outstanding contributions in Maternal and Child Health in the sub-region was instituted by the AdeGrange Foundation (founded by Dr. AdeGrange) and is open to Nigerian Paediatricians practising in any country of the world. It carries a cash prize and a plaque.

Eligibility Criteria

The awardee must:

  1. Be a Nigerian Paediatrician — preferably working in Nigeria in a multi-disciplinary environment but could be a partner researcher working in the Diaspora after having worked in Nigeria for a period of at least 10 years.
  2. Be of high moral standing in the community and among colleagues.
  3. Be of Consultant status and should have demonstrated his or her commitment to his/her chosen line of investigation for the purpose of generating evidence for the development of relevant policies or improvement of policy dialogue in Nigeria.
  4. Have published relevant papers in peer-reviewed journals nationally and internationally.
  5. Have participated in making presentations at national and international levels on this topic.

NB: Case reports, case series and reviews will not be considered for any of the awards.

Call for Nominations
  1. Persons may nominate themselves for the award.
  2. It will be open to all Nigerian Paediatricians who meet the criteria
  3. The call will appear on the PAN website and on all electronic platforms of PAN.
  4. Entries will close 3 months to the PAN Conference of the award year.
  5. The Award will be presented at the PAN Conference
  6. The recipient of the award may be represented at the award ceremony

  3. Any other document as committee may deem necessary to make the decision.

All applicants for the Kunle Ijaiya Prize are required to submit their abstracts through their personal user profile page.

Those applying for either the Theodore Okeahialam or AdeGrange Prize should submit relevant documents to [email protected] on or before midnight of 31 December, 2026.

The curriculum vitae for the AdeGrange award must, in addition to other relevant information, have the underlisted included:

  • A list of papers published in local or regional journals.
  • A list of papers published in international journals.
  • Applicant's H-index.
  • A list of candidates supervised at the Fellowship or PhD level.
  • Research abstract with the published article (where applicable).

NB: Case reports, case series and reviews will not be considered for any of the awards.
